Job Description

About the Role

We're seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is hands-on, collaborative, and proactive-someone who anticipates needs, improves processes, and communicates clearly across teams. Experience with grants accounting and NetSuite is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger & Close
    • Prepare and post journal entries; maintain accruals, deferrals, and reallocations.
    • Reconcile balance sheet accounts (cash, A/R, A/P, prepaid, fixed assets).
    • Assist with month-end close to deliver timely, accurate financial statements.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable
    • Review invoices for proper coding, approvals, and compliance with policies.
    • Process vendor payments (ACH, checks, wires) and manage vendor statements.
    • Support invoicing, collections follow-up, and cash application.
  • Grants Accounting (Preferred)
    • Track grant budgets, spending, and restricted vs. unrestricted funds.
    • Prepare grant drawdowns, reimbursement requests, and funder reports.
    • Ensure compliance with grant terms, allowability, and documentation standards.
  • Compliance & Reporting
    • Assist with audit schedules and PBC requests; maintain supporting documentation.
    • Support tax filings (e.g., 1099s) and regulatory reporting as applicable.
  • Process Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and automate recurring tasks.
    • Document procedures and strengthen internal controls.
  • Cross-Functional Support
    • Partner with Operations, FP&A, and Program teams on allocations, budget vs. actuals, and variance explanations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-4 years of progressive accounting experience (staff or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP; strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables).
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite strongly preferred).

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status. We consider all qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with state and local laws, including the California Fair Chance Act, City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, and Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance. For unincorporated Los Angeles county, to the extent our customers require a background check for certain positions, the Company faces a significant risk to its business operations and business reputation unless a review of criminal history is conducted for those specific job positions.
